How often do you allow yourself to play?
And why you need to.
I’m allowing myself to be playful. Not something that comes naturally to me. The fear of other’s judgement has always held me back from really allowing myself to let loose. Hardly suprising when women are judged for every tiny thing that we do, what we eat, what we wear, how we parent. It’s exhausting!
So because I wholeheartedly reject this ridiculously unfair judgement of women i’m reclaiming play. Whether thats when i’m playing with my kids, growing my plants or when i’m coming up with fun new ways I can help you in your garden.
It still feels a little sticky each time I give myself permission to play but unless I allow myself to be a beginner and practice the thing i’m finding hard then i’m never going to get better at it am I?
We are so good at encouraging our kids to ‘try again’ but not so great at showing ourselves the same grace and kindness.
When I was younger and tried a new sport or activity and I didn’t immediately excel at it, I wrote it off (and myself in the process). Continually doing this right into adulthood really had an impact on my self worth, to the point where I didn’t think I was very good at ANYTHING.

You plant a few things, they don’t grow how you expect them to, or heaven forbid THEY DIE! And you tell yourself for evermore that you can’t garden. But you want a gorgeous garden to hang out with your friends in, bug hunt with the kids in and of course to have a bit of time for yourself in.
