[Sings] This is my confession...
slightly different from Usher's in the early 2000's but a confession nonetheless
I feel embarrassed to admit this. And actually I wasn’t even aware I was playing fully into the conditioning that’s been instilled in me from a very early age, until someone held a mirror up to me.
I’m in this wonderful business mastermind you see with
and we were talking about feeling stuck and overwhelmed with our businesses. It quickly became clear that most of us were keeping ourselves busy for busy’s sake, doing unnecessary admin, procrastinating on the needle moving tasks for our business and swallowing up all our ‘available’ time with work. We’ve done enough work with Sara to know that the more space we can carve out for ourselves during our working day the more creative we will be. The more joyful our businesses will feel to us and the more our prospective clients will be able to sense that we adore what we do and feel called to work with us.
I know that time in the garden helps me stay on a level, helps me to come up with wonderfully creative ideas for client’s gardens, for my garden and to share my business’ message with the world.
I also know that it helps me to feel less anxious, less overwhelmed by the constant juggle and less snappy with those around me.
And yet, I’d been telling myself that I couldn’t get out in the garden until I had ticked off all the business related things on my to do list. And then sure enough, because of the aforementioned procrastination on the business stuff, I never got my garden time. And i’d spend the whole day feeling cranky and frustrated.
I don’t know about you but I don’t want to spend time with someone who’s giving off grumpy vibes let alone pay them for their privilege while they support me to get gardening myself.
I want someone who walks the talk, who’s got their hands in the soil right alongside of me.
This is why having a mentor is so powerful. Because it allows us to examine the stories we are telling ourselves about why we can’t have something or do something and it allows us to rewrite that narrative to suit us.
For all of our lives we have been told that we must follow the well trodden path of those women who have gone before us. But when I read about women in the past I am immediately drawn to the rebellious ones, the ones who stood up, fought for and claimed that which they knew they deserved.
So here’s my rallying call to action for you.
As ridiculous as it is that taking more time for yourself to connect with Nature and your garden is considered rebellious. That is still the case. But i’m not prepared to just sit still and take the boring well trodden path that leads to apathy, misery and burnout. Are you?
I currently have 3 ways that I can support you in your rebellious gardening era.
This is for you if you want me to guide and support you through the process of creating your dream garden from start to finish so that you can get gardening regularly and use it as a tool in your wellbeing toolkit for years to come.
This is for you if you want to get your hands dirty as you add more colour and life to your green space and experience the joy of being in the garden. But you don’t know where to start, you feel like you don’t have the knowledge or skills and you second guess yourself at every opportunity.
