The guilt was overwhelming…
And it meant I lived with plants I hated in my garden for years.
Even though the previous owners hadn’t really cared for the garden and it was very overgrown with a lot of the plants in a bit of a mess. I still felt ‘bad’ to be digging up anything and getting rid of it.
I felt guilty not for the old owners (although many of my clients tell me they feel this) but for the plants themselves. Sounds crazy I know. But I worried that if I chopped them back too harshly or dug them up completely i’d kill them and then i’d be a bad person…….wow my inner critic can be an utter cow at times.
Sure there was a cost implication too, if I dug it up, would I be able to afford to put something I did like in its place?
But actually, deep down I think I felt really intimidated by the garden. The power it held, like it was something to be tamed. The innate strength of Mother Earth winding itself through every stem and leaf.
So I dabbled in the garden for a good couple of years, seeing the plants I hated out of the corner of my eye and allowing them to bring my vibe down.
And then one day, once this dabbling had allowed me to regain my strength, I said ‘enough is enough. It’s time to be really honest with yourself about what YOU WANT growing in your sanctuary.’ Because even back then before shit got really tough in my life, I knew I was creating my sanctuary. A place for me to escape to, to collect my thoughts and come back to face the world that little bit stronger each time.
So I made a big old list, got really honest with myself and put a big tick or a cross next to each plant.
And then began the big old dig.
AND the sparkle began to flow. The more I unearthed the plants that were blocking my energy the more free I felt.
And now I’m all about helping more women to do the same. So that their gardens stop being a millstone round their neck and instead become a place of joy and happiness.
Whenever I start working with a client, after we’ve worked out the conditions they have to offer plants, and we’ve stirred up their creative juices with my dream garden visualisation, we do a garden audit.
This involves looking at everything they’ve got growing in their space and marking it as either something that sets their heart on fire (think Marie Kondo and sparking joy) or something that they want rid of.
Because there isn’t any space in your garden for something thats bringing the lukewarm vibes.
For the next two weeks I am opening up my diary to give you the chance to undertake your very own garden audit with my support.
We’ll have 30 minutes together to get as many of the plants in your garden identified and tagged as YAY or NAY!
Obvs I am one woman and I don’t work on my biz everyday, so without sounding like one of the scarcity charlatans. If you want one book it now as there are not unlimited spots!
This is perfect for you if:
You don’t know what the plants are in your garden and you want to know.
Your garden looks such a mess that you can’t face going out there so you don’t know whether you like what’s growing or not.
Feelings of guilt are holding you back from getting rid of the plants that are not sparking joy (whether it’s feeling bad about digging up the previous owners much loved garden, or like me feeling bad for the plants themselves 🙈 ). And you need someone to give you a friendly but firm push to do it.
You’ll need either photos of your borders or the ability to take me out into your garden on our call and show me around- a phone or a tablet is ideal for this.
