‘I just use pellets’ I heard a man say to my friend at a Summer fete. I could feel the anger rise in me. I’d kept my counsel until then, as he’d explained alllllll about nematodes, how to slug hunt (yes really….) and then threw this off the cuff comment in.

‘Don’t do that’ I said to my friend semi under my breath.

‘Oh how come’ she said.

The Seed is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

I explained that they’re pretty dangerous for kids and pets if they consume them.

She asked me what I did about slugs in my garden. I replied honestly ‘The biodiversity in my garden is so good I don’t need to worry about them.’

Sure this takes time and isn’t an overnight fix. But if you’re like my friend and getting pissed off with slugs munching your plants then have a watch of this Adventures with Flowers TV episode where I share tips that actually work (some of them instantaneous) and don’t involve murder. I’ve had plenty enough of that in my past life as a forensic scientist thanks!

Listen I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, gardening is never a one and done. It’s about living in harmony with Mother Nature, giving back to her and reaping the rewards too. But like life you can’t just keep taking all the time and not expecting to give, otherwise you end up like the Tories, hated and destined to lose.

When you do open your heart and soul up to your garden, it’s the giving AND the receiving that feels so fucking good. So much of our lives and time as women is given to others, very often for very little in return, so it makes a refreshing change when you get to cut a sweetly scented bunch of flowers from the garden to adorn your desk or to snaffle a sweet cherry tomato straight from the plant as a just reward.

If you’re struggling to get started in the garden then The Great Garden Rebellion is for you. Where to start, What to buy and where to plant it. Come and join me for some simplified action to get you started in your garden and reduce those stress levels!

Join the Rebellion here!

If you’ve already started but you’d like some ongoing inspiration and accountability to keep getting out there to quiet your mind and take some much needed time for you then upgrade to paid below and dive head first into this weeks activities.
