Things to do this week in your garden- January Week 2
Mindful Gardening and Floristry activities to calm your mind and soothe your soul
I could feel the excitement surging through my veins.
We had no plans for this weekend and Dave mentioned he quite fancied going shooting on Saturday. ‘Great idea’ I said as I knew this would mean some time in the garden for me on Sunday. My beaming smile a symptom of the inner joy radiating out from within me.
My mum finds this sharing out of time with the kids, so that we can also have time for ourselves, weird. I guess because in their day, time for themselves was a luxury they weren’t prepared to ask for.
I make no secret of the fact, in real life or my online life about the fact that taking time for me in my garden is one of my biggest priorities. It helps me to stay sane (literally), be a better mum, feel less overwhelmed and actually have some joy in my life in amongst the school runs, work and life admin.
But it wasn’t always this way. When I first got my garden I saw it as a chore to be done, had no idea what I was doing and felt really intimidated to start gardening.
I didn’t have kids at the time so I had more time to research how to do things, make mistakes (I don’t even want to think about how much money I wasted buying the wrong plants for my space). But it didn’t stop me second guessing myself, wondering if I could do this gardening thing, wishing my Grandpa was still alive so I could ask him endless gardening questions.
Because no one had taught me how to garden. In today’s society its not considered a valuable skill like reciting your times tables and learning to read. I’d wholly disagree by the way!
So that’s why I pop into your inbox each week, so I can encourage you to take some regular time for you and support you to get gardening so that you can feel calmer and invite some more joy into your life.
