Things to do this week in your garden- 6th October 2024
Mindful Gardening and Floristry activities to calm your mind and soothe your soul
I was chatting to a friend last night about the lack of women in senior roles in her company (she works in a big health, wellness and nutrition company). We discussed the pale, male and stale attitude that still exists inside most large organisations and how exhausting the battle still is to try and get a place at the table.
I posited that aside from the view of the men in decision making roles, which actually is not something we have much control over, it is difficult to keep shouting that you deserve a chance when for our entire lives we have been told that we are less than.
And then when you constantly come up against barriers, like the antiquated views of those in power, that you aren’t good enough, it can be easy to slip into believing them.
That’s exactly what happened to me when I worked in Forensics, despite proving myself again and again, the men in charge could not just say ‘well done’ and reward me as they would their male counterparts. And when I asked to be financially recompensed fairly, they tried to destroy me.
It was at this point in my life that I leaned heavily into gardening. It helped me to rebuild and grow my self worth doing something that was completely unconnected to work, to grow my sense of power while those around me were trying to obliterate it. Because women having power and backing themselves scares the shit out of men (and some women, riddled with internalised misogeny).
I believe that the only way to truly have equality isn’t by sacrificing ourselves on the alter of work. But by cultivating that inner power with creativity, by connecting with Mother Nature and doing it daily so that a shitty email from your arsehole boss no longer upsets your mood for days.
That’s why your garden is so powerful, because it’s right there outside your back door, no fancy gym memberships required, no having to commit to someone else’s schedule. Just pure unadulterated time for you to expand your inner strength.
If you need some personalised help to get one area of your garden looking shit hot while growing your inner power then I have 2 spaces this month for Garden Glow Ups.
If you’re interested in dipping your toe into the world of gardening in a group environment then this week’s activities will help you grow your garden and yourself. Click below to upgrade.
p.s. Now is a great time to get the garden sorted because there are tonnes of bargains to be had in the garden centre right now!
