What to do in your garden in February
Hi darling, I’m Kendall, a horticultural therapist. Here on my Substack, I share tips on how to use your garden to grow your personal power in a world that tries to keep women stuck, exhausted & burnt out. Come grab your trowel and join the rebellion, we’ve got a patriarchy to dismantle.
Welcome to the Seed, the place where we learn to resource ourselves in the garden so that we can unlock more joy in our lives.
February- the month of love! And how better to show yourself some love than by getting in the garden or making yourself a bouquet of love from some February flowers.
Mindful Gardening activities
These activities are designed to be done throughout February so you can grow your gardening confidence in community. Come and join us for £50 for the entire year and garden alongside us instead of figuring it out alone.
If you’re using the Substack app, click the 3 dots in the top right of your screen and choose save from the drop down so you can find this signposting article throughout the month and easily access your mindful gardening activities. Or if you’re reading on email I really recommend creating a folder in your email inbox called The Seed and popping this email in there for easy access!
Do this one thing in February to grow your garden and improve your wellbeing and mood
Our February focus is planning.
A word that makes most of us want to regurgitate in our own mouths, especially if you’re neurospicy like me. BUT planning is the only way I get anything done in my life. Because my brain is such chaos, if I don’t have a reminder set for something I WILL forget to do the thing. But in order to get those reminders in place I have to plan first and then put them in place. Sadly there’s no magical organisation fairy that does it for me.
The garden is no different. If you just rock up at the garden centre and shove a load of random plants in your trolley and shove them in the ground willy nilly, what do you get? A garden border that looks like the inside of my brain and let me tell you now that AIN’T pretty.
So we’re gonna plan.
The first step is to (and i’m gonna put this in quote marks because its so fucking important to prevent you from getting overwhelmed)
Focus on one area
Choose one area of your garden that you’d like to make a change to. One border, one collection of pots, perhaps your seating area needs a little glow up.
Now I want your to close your eyes and listen to this Dream border meditation.
This is an exercise I do with my 1:1 clients and it’s designed to get your creative juices flowing and tap into your intuition.
So often Pinterest, Instagram and the internet in general is so noisy with 'You must plant this in your garden’ content that it’s hard to know what you actually want your garden to look like. You know deep down inside, and this meditation will help you to quiet the noise and access it.
Have a notepad and pen handy before you hit play so you can scribble down all your thoughts once it’s finished.
The next steps of the border design process are covered in my Garden border design masterclass. You can purchase it here.
If group settings aren’t your thing and you want me to guide you (with tailored advice for your space) through giving your border a Glow Up in person, then you can book in for A Garden Glow Up. 30 days of support to inject some colour and joy into an unloved area.

How to prune your Roses
Kind of what it says on the tin. If you’ve got a rose growing in your garden, you’re gonna want to get your eyes on this article. It’s gonna be super simple, step-by-step so you can follow along. And I’m going to record an audio version too, so you can have me in your ear holes as you prune should you so wish!'
The first of my Garden Adventures
I cannot wait to bring you along on my first garden adventure of 2025. Spending time in Nature not just in our own spaces is so key for inspiration, re-energising our love for gardening and also filling our own energetic cups.
I’m going to be sharing the things I love about this garden, the things I DON’T like and how you can recreate the things I love in your garden at home.
The real reason garden centres are dying
I was asked for my opinion on this by a journalist earlier this week but there was so much more about it that I wanted to share. I also have so many bloody ideas (that won’t make it into the news article) for solutions to this problem and I would LOVE to get your thoughts on them.
If you want to be part of a gardening community where you can learn to garden without judgement, a place where you can share your wins and your struggles without feeling like a failure, then come and join as a paid member.
It would be remiss of me to not mention my bloody brilliant masterclass Learn how to prune your plants. Which is THE only thing you need to watch if you’re a complete pruning beginner or you’re finding yourself procrastinating over getting your pruning done.
Come and do it along with me
