Hi darling, I’m Kendall, a horticultural therapist. Here on my Substack, I share tips on how to use your garden to grow your personal power in a world that tries to keep women stuck, exhausted & burnt out. Come grab your trowel and join the rebellion, we’ve got a patriarchy to dismantle.
Welcome to the Seed, the place where you’ll learn to resource yourself in the garden using 5 minute mindful gardening activities so that you can unlock more joy in your life.
June is here! The craziest month in our house with birthdays, wedding anniversary (10 fucking years OMG) and our childminder is away for 2 weeks on a very well deserved holiday. Cue the juggle…
My garden is looking FIIIIIIINE though, with the roses and foxgloves doing their thing. This week when I’ve had moments of overwhelm, I’ve taken a cuppa out into the garden and just sat and watched the bees buzz lazily from flower to flower. It’s helped to soothe and re-energise me at the same time when I’ve felt all at sea from being out of routine.
I’m just gonna come right out and say it. I want to help you to create a garden therapy space in your back garden, one that you can go to every day if you choose to. No more having to find 2 hours in your day to go along to a gardening class at another location or sweat it out in some over stimulating gym class in order to feel less like your brain is going to explode. Just you in your own garden, learning to garden to feel better.
The most accessible way I can do that is in the Seed, my mindful gardening membership. And i’m right there in the community to support you to put down your phone and calm your nervous system in Nature as you grow your garden space.
When you become a member and start taking regular action in your garden using my mindful gardening activities you feel calmer, happier and more powerful.
Mindful Gardening activities
These activities are designed to be done throughout June so you can grow your gardening confidence in community without feeling overwhelmed. With at least two 5 minute activities a week, they’re designed to fit into the busiest of lives and meet you where you’re at. Come and join us for £80 for the entire year and garden alongside us instead of figuring it out alone.
If you’re using the Substack app, click the 3 dots in the top right of your screen and choose save from the drop down so you can find this signposting article throughout the month and easily access your mindful gardening activities. Or if you’re reading on email I really recommend creating a folder in your email inbox called The Seed and popping this email in there for easy access!
Do this one thing in June to grow your garden and improve your wellbeing and mood
Our June focus is WATERING.
In the UK we have had the driest Spring for 100 years and yes I know its spent most of half term raining (of course it has!) but that is still not enough to make up for the deficit of rain we’ve had in the months previous.
You have two choices.
Grow more drought tolerant plants
Create a watering system that works for you.
I’m choosing a combination of both.
When I’m perusing seed catalogues and wandering the aisles of the garden centre I’m mindful of how much water the plants I’m choosing will need. And I’m actively opting for those that don’t mind being a little dry, some sensory faves right now are agapanthus, geums, bearded iris, cat mint, verbascums, and lavender.
I have set up a watering system that saves me time but also allows me to engage with my plants every day to calm my nervous system after a long day. I’m going to be sharing more on this in the very exciting thing that is coming to the Seed soon. So make sure you’re subscribed to find out about support with setting up your own plus so much more!
p.s. One of the benefits of being a paid member of the Seed is that you get first dibs on new things I release. So if you know that you want one of the very limited spaces in aforementioned very exciting thing you’ll want to join as a paid subscriber here.
