I so want to be someone who can get started on my garden but honestly I feel totally overwhelmed even thinking about it!! But yet I know it will be the best thing I’ve ever done!! Any tips to get over the initial fear/procrastination?? Like I know I’m supposed to have trimmed back stuff like roses and hydrangeas and haven’t and then just feel hopeless before I’ve even started!!!!! 🙈

First, know you’re not alone in feeling like that. Also know that it’s not too late, gardening is a process not something to complete.

What one activity can you do today to get you started? Choose one rose bush and prune it.

If you can’t do it today add it to your diary or calendar for this week!

Come share with us once you’ve done it, for accountability and some cheerleading.

Remember plants want to grow so it’s hard to prune them to death.

I have a paid resource that is step by step for pruning roses (with audio guide to have me in your ears as you prune) if your need some extra support: https://open.substack.com/pub/adventureswithflowers/p/how-to-prune-your-roses-in-5-simple?r=7fr2c&utm_medium=ios

I also have something coming later this month that will give you a great jumpstart into the garden. Will send it to you once it’s ready xx

I think for me there is a massive piece about getting it ‘wrong’… is it too late to prune roses as they are already sprouting again???? I need to carve out some time to be able to make the most of your paid resources but it is on my wishlist!!!! xx

Oh yes! That fear that someone is going to come and bollock you if you get it wrong, or even worse the plant dies and then what does that mean about you- that you're a shit gardener or even worse a bad person. Can you let yourself be a beginner and experiment? When you are ready, we would love to have you in the membership. p.s. Loved the Human Design call as part of Claire's Substack mastermind just now- thank you so much! xx

You make a great point! Perhaps it's march but it doesn't quite feel like spring. It's very cold in the shade still but we get fooled by how pleasant it feels in the sunshine!!

Yeah. Just imagine you’re a little seed in the soil at night- there’s no way on earth you’d be wanting to grow. It’s way too cold! 🥶

This is all so exciting! I love that I've found your substack. I'm in Scotland so may need to add a couple of weeks to timelines though :)

Just saying as purchaser of your OG gardening journal, I thought it made a bloody brilliant gift. So whilst it might not have had the financial impact you wanted, it did have an impact 💕. And you've got the richness of all the hard work behind you that you can benefit from in other ways in the years to come. x

Ah that is so kind of you to say Lee. It’s the sum of all of the parts that leaves our lasting impact hey. The people that bought it loved it and like you say all the work I put into it is still used in the Seed today. Will def have a better plan in place for promotion when my book is written 😍🌱

I have about six to eight weeks before I can start planting here but I went ahead and did some winter sowing jugs as a grand experiment. We'll see what comes of it. This is my first time gardening at this kind of scale (2 veggie beds and will begin some flower beds) but we spend spring and summer outside as much as possible so I figured I may as well give it a try since I'm out there with the kids.

How exciting- we love a gardening experiment here at the Seed!

My biggest tip on gardening with the kids in tow is to give them a little patch of their own (even if it's just the corner of a bed).

That way they can dig in it to their hearts content and means they don't end up unearthing your carefully planted plants! Be sure to let us know how the experiment progresses 🌱😍
